The power light wasn't blinking non-stop anymore. They sent me a "refurb" modem with the older. Wait 2 minutes for the DSL and Internet lights on the modem to turn green before trying to access the internet. But it still wasn't connecting to dsl. This step will take about 2 minutes. Pretty strange problem, but I thought that I might try to get the modem to go into boot loader mode and reload the firmware.

A very strange problem to say the least. It is highly recommended to always use the most recent driver version available. Follow the instructions given on the page and point to the firmware you downloaded in step 1. Only way to revive it was to reflash the modem through the bootloader interface.
